2012-2013 Music Ensemble Auditions

Chamber Singers

Auditions for the 2012-2013 Chamber Singers will be held August 21-23, 2012. Please come prepared to sing two contrasting pieces that show off your vocal range.

Rehearsals are M-TH 4:00pm - 5:20pm. This is a year long commitment.

Westminster Chorale

Tuesday, August 28 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm in the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts in the rehearsal room. If you are unable to attend the audition this Tuesday, you can attend the following Tuesday at the same time.

Students need not prepare a solo song for the audition. There is no "make-it-or-break-it" portion of the audition; rather an audition is a means of gathering information about all interested students for appropriate placement. Assignment into the chorale is based on information from the audition process, balance needs and space availability. Students of all majors are encouraged to audition.

The ensemble meets every Tuesday from 6:30pm-9:30pm with two concerts a year. This can be taken for credit or no credit.

Chamber Orchestra

The Westminster College Chamber Orchestra is now auditioning for Spring Semester 2013. We have a particular need for strings, but all instruments are welcome to audition. You will be asked to perform the following in your audition: 1) One major scale of your choice, three octaves if possible (memorized); 2) one minor scale of your choice, two octaves (memorized); 3) a prepared solo piece that represents your best playing. Please bring an extra photocopy of the score of your prepared piece; 4) sight reading of excerpts from the orchestral repertoire.

Auditions will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Jewett Center Rehearsal Room, or by appointment prior to that time. To reserve an audition time and for directions, please contact Dr. Brandon Derfler at 801.832.2441 or bderfler@westminstercollege.edu.

Placement in the orchestra is contingent upon need for a particular instrument (enrolled Westminster College students are given first priority) and upon the audition results.

Audition results will be made known by January 8, 2013.

Auditions do determine seating; however, we do not seat in rank order from top to bottom. Sections are balanced for strength and seating rotation is possible throughout the season.

Jazz Ensemble

Friday, August 24 from 9am - 12pm in the EEJC rehearsal room. If you are unable to attend auditions on Friday, come the following Friday, September 2 at the same time. Work with the acclaimed jazz musician David Halliday and get ensemble experience.

Rehearsals will be held every Friday from 9am - 12pm and can be taken for credit or no credit. This ensemble is open to all majors.
