Westminster Outdoor Orientation Program - August 12-16, 2013
Start your Westminster experience with the Outdoor Recreation Program by exploring Utah’s amazing wilderness with fellow students! The Outdoor Orientation occurs before and is a complement to the First-Year Student Orientation that begins on August 17th. We offer three different trips and they are open to all skill levels - including beginners. We also work with Honors and Scholars students to ensure that they can participate in the Outdoor Orientation and Honors & Scholars orientations. Take a look at the answers to FAQs page for any questions you might have about check-in dates & times, residence hall move-in, airport shuttles, etc. This program is for incoming first-year students only and space is limited! Westminster's Outdoor Orientation Program is designed to facilitate a more positive transition to college life through:
Building community & meaningful relationships in a dynamic and fun setting
Challenging students with experiences that promote opportunities for leadership, reflection of personal strengths & challenges, responsibility, communication, respect for differences, and self-confidence
Providing a forum for students to discuss and process their thoughts and feelings about entering college with peers and mentors
Drawing parallels and comparisons from the trip to the college setting, ultimately helping students learn more about themselves and how they might cope with challenging situations in the future
Developing an appreciation for the outdoors and providing students with a connection to the Outdoor Recreation program
Identifying students with exceptional leadership qualities that may be interested in being future trip leaders
