Community Structure of
Mollusk Shell Beds from Bear Lake
This project is still in progress. The shores of Bear Lake on the Utah-Idaho border are home to a diverse assemblage of subfossil mollusks that have never been rigorously studied. What species used to live in this lake? How does the diversity of the fossil fauna change from place to place along the lakeshore? Beginning in the summer of 2006, Westminster College students have been collecting and sorting thousands of shells in hopes of answering these and other questions about the distribution of lake-sorted fossils.
