2013 Well Check Gets High Marks from Parents
“I give Westminster College an A+,” said one mom during Westminster’s signature Well Check for parents of first year students. “He’s adjusting well, studying hard, and has made some good friends.” “She is passionate about Westminster and even brought three friends home for fall break!” These are just a few of the comments heard from parents during Westminster’s Well Check program in October.
Fifteen staff, most of whom are Westminster parents themselves, contacted more than half of the parents of first year students. “The first six weeks of college are a challenging time for students who are adjusting to new living situations, academic challenges, and more independence,” said Dana Tumpowsky, director of The Parent Fund and Family Programs. “This is also a time of adjustment for many parents, too, and Westminster wants to support families with resources and connections on campus.”
“E-newsletters, emails and phone calls help to inform parents about the college culture, both easing concerns about any number of parent worries like social adjustment, academic performance, roommate compatibility and campus safety. We also are encouraging families to participate in Westminster’s Winter Weekend for Parents and Families in February,” says Tumpowsky.
She explained that Well Check calls were made to most parents who submitted a parent information form, found here.
