Athletes will compete in Global Challenge Competition for girls ages 12-19

SALT LAKE CITY - Beginning today, the Westminster College residential village will serve as the official team village for the 2005 US Youth/Junior High Performance Global Challenge, an international volleyball competition for girls. The team village will be home to the athletes while they are visiting Salt Lake City July 22-29, 2005. Opening ceremonies will take place at Lagoon on July 23, 2005 and the competition will begin on July 25.

This is the first time the Westminster College campus will be used as the team village during the will during the Global Challenge. Volleyball players from China, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia and Canada, as well as from all over the United States, will be housed at Westminster. The college's recently constructed residential village will serve as the team village throughout the two-week long competition.

Westminster President Michael Bassis remarked, "We are thrilled to support these elite athletes. As a college deeply committed to student learning we believe strongly in helping youth pursue their passions in and out of the classroom. We are particularly excited to be the team village for the competition and hope that our campus will be a great home-away-from-home for these young athletes while they are in Utah competing."
