Mason Goodhand Comes to Westminster After Building Nationally Ranked Program at the U
SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster College Athletic Director, Trevor Wilson, announced today that Mason Goodhand has accepted the position as the Griffin's Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Goodhand, who has successfully served the past five seasons as the Head Coach at the University of Utah, will be the inaugural head coach when the team begins play in the Spring of 2007.
Previous to Goodhand's stint as the head coach at the University of Utah, he was an assistant coach at the Air Force Academy (1986-1989, 1978-1979) and the Arizona State University club team (1979-1980); Goodhand also served as the head coach at California State University-Sacramento.
Goodhand has also been involved in numerous youth lacrosse organizations in Utah and is generally regarded as one of the leading lacrosse figures in the state of Utah.
According to Wilson, "We are extremely fortunate to hire a coach of Mason's ability; he runs an outstanding lacrosse program at the U and is certainly viewed locally and nationally as an exceptional coach."
Goodhand is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy where he was a member of the Academy's lacrosse team. Currently, Goodhand works as a pilot for Delta Airlines.
Westminster College plans to compete in men's lacrosse at the club level in the Spring of 2007. Future plans include the strong possibility of moving to a full intercollegiate program. The lacrosse team will play its home games on a brand new facility that is currently under construction on the Westminster campus. The field will also be home to Westminster's men's and women's soccer teams.
