Westminster College Career Center Director, Beverly Christy Becomes 2006 President Elect of Sugarhouse Rotary Club

March 30 2007

Christy will become President in 2007

SALT LAKE CITY - Beverly Christy, Director of the Career Resource Center at Westminster College, will become president elect of the Sugarhouse Rotary Club this summer and hold the position through the following year, when she will be appointed president. Christy, who is the college’s official representative in the Sugarhouse Rotary Club, joined in 1999.

Christy began working at Westminster in 1990. She originally served as the Assistant Director of Admissions, and held several positions before being appointed Director of the Career Resource Center in 1998. In addition to her work overseeing the Career Resource Center she teaches college success and freshman orientation courses, as well as curriculum vitae and résumé presentation for Nursing and MSN students.

Recently, the Utah Foundation released a study which showed that Westminster rated the highest among all schools in Utah for providing graduates with job opportunities and that Westminster had the lowest percentage of graduate receiving salaries below $30,000. College officials attribute this to the Career Resource Center’s success at placing a high number of students with internships, something Christy was chiefly responsible for.

“The whole mission of Rotary International is service, and it’s a wonderful way to volunteer. I think it also speaks highly of Westminster College that they encourage me to be involved. It’s very challenging but very rewarding,” Christy remarked.

Christy will become president of the Sugarhouse Rotary Club July 1, 2007-just after Salt Lake City hosts the Rotary International Convention. The convention will bring together clubs from across the world. The last time the city hosted the convention was 1919.
