Griffins Win RMLC Championship
May 5, 2007
WESTMINSTER 19, NORTHERN COLORADO 13
Saturday's RMLC Div. B Championship game featured a rematch of two teams that faced off in
mid-February with Westminster prevailing 20-12 over the University of Northern Colorado.
The results were much the same as the Griffins fought their way to a 19-13 victory to win
the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Title in their first season of play.
The difference, perhaps, was Westminster attack man Roman Schoewe who was unable to play in
the teams' regular-season meeting due to a bizzare back injury. Schoewe made the most of
his first opportunity to play UNC as he exploded for four goals and four assists to lead
the Griffins' very balanced attack.
The balance was provided by James Brand (4 goals, 2 assists), Jake Barnes (3 goals, 2
assists), Brad Watkins (3 goals, 1 assist) and JT Nebeker (3 goals).
UNC's only lead was 1-0, before Westminster took control in a game that was much closer
than the final margin. Westminster, 15-2 overall and ranked #2 in the country, now has
their sights set on a National Championship next weekend. The Griffins will find out their
opponent later this week.
