Westminster Announces Top 10 Opportunity Quest Finalists
Business Plan Finalists Compete for an Opportunity to Advance to the Statewide Contest
SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster College’s Institute for New Enterprise in the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business announced the top 10 finalists in the Opportunity Quest business plan competition Friday.
Opportunity Quest is Westminster’s first business innovation competition, and is co-directed by two Westminster business students, Jason Badell and Jared Hansen. The competition includes a series of events leading to an awards dinner held on Jan. 25, 2008, and cash prizes of up to $8,000. Events include forums and presentations on business plan writing, presentation skills and one-on-one mentorship from college faculty and other local business community leaders.
“This has been a very exciting program for us thus far because of the demonstrated interest from students in our first year of launching the competition,” said Linda Muir, Opportunity Quest coordinator. “We had 26 business idea submissions, which exceeded our goal of between 15 to 20 participants. We're pleasantly surprised and pleased with the outcome.”
The 10 finalists include: Jennifer Porter – Back to Business; Brent Davidson – Savvy May Creations; Trevor Wood - Green Directive; Kim Bowman - Faster Than Light Education; Heather McEntire - Vinyl Accent; Daniel Dworshak - TruGreen Homes; Anthony Engert -NightOut.com; Jared Hosenfeld - Direct Documents, LLC; Brett Winklesky - P3 Network, LLC; and Jamon Ekins - Virtual Inspection Services, LLC.
During the next phase of the competition, finalists will give an oral pitch on their business plan to a judges' panel on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be selected and announced Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 at an awards banquet held on campus. All finalists have the opportunity to compete in the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge for cash prizes up to $100,000 and in-kind services to launch their business.
