Westminster Announces Deadline for McNair Scholars Applications

Scholarship Focuses on Low-Income, First Generation and Underrepresented Students from Westminster, UofU and SLCC

SALT LAKE CITY – Have you ever considered going to graduate school, but weren’t sure how to get there? If you fit certain eligibility requirements, and will be a college sophomore, junior, or senior in Fall 2008, Westminster is pleased to invite you to apply to be part of an elite, national graduate school preparation program: the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2008.

The McNair Scholars Program is a federally-funded effort to increase the number of low-income, first-generation and/or underrepresented students who go on to graduate studies with the ultimate goal of pursuing a PhD and increasing the amount of underrepresented faculty populations. The program is named after Dr. McNair, an African American physicist and NASA astronaut who died in the Challenger explosion in 1986. Students from Westminster College, Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah are encouraged to apply.

Westminster is now accepting applications for the 2008-09 academic year. For more information, visit www.westminstercollege.edu/mcnair, or call (801) 832-3250. If your application is accepted, you will become part of the first McNair Scholars Program in the State of Utah. As a McNair Scholar, you will have opportunities to participate in a wide array of activities that will guide you to success in graduate school. Applications must be mailed by March 31, 2008.
