Westminster College Appoints Alvin Richer As Its Newest Trustee

Local Businessman Selected to Serve on the College’s Board of Trustees

SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster recently announced the appointment of Alvin “Al” Richer, Chairman of the Board of Arnold Machinery Company, as the newest member of the college’s Board of Trustees.

Westminster's Board of Trustees is the governing organization of the institution. Comprised of 35 members, including Westminster President Michael Bassis and Chair Robert Frankenberg, the board determines policy and sets the strategic direction for the college.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Mr. Richer as our newest trustee,” said Michael Bassis, President of Westminster College. “His outstanding leadership and management philosophy will be a tremendous asset to this institution and we’re excited to welcome him aboard.”

A Westminster alumnus, Mr. Richer earned his Bachelor of Science in Management in 1982. He later served as a part-time management instructor at the college. Throughout the years, Mr. Richer and his wife, Helene, have supported several academic areas of Westminster, including creating the “Alvin and Helene Richer Academic Excellence Scholarship.” The scholarship is awarded to Honors freshmen who demonstrate particular promise in academic excellence, campus leadership and undergraduate research.

Mr. Richer currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Arnold Machinery Company, a privately held distributor of construction, mining material handling and farm equipment. Under his leadership, the company has achieved consistent profitability and increased sales volume due to his successful management practices. He implemented a “Silver Service Guarantee” that reflects the company’s uncompromising commitment to customer satisfaction. According to Mr. Richer, “No sale is ever final until the customer is satisfied.”

The Associated Equipment Distributors presented Mr. Richer with the AED Founders' Award, the industry's highest award for individual service on Jan. 12, 2008. Mr. Richer served as President of the organization, representing all equipment distributors in North America, in 1998.
