Fourth Graders Share their Collaborative Great Salt Lake Experiments with Westminster

North Star Elementary School Students Present Posters on Experiments Concerning GSL

SALT LAKE CITY – In an effort to continuously strengthen its outreach efforts with local K-12 students, Westminster College has invited 29 fourth graders from North Star Elementary School to present posters on their experiments concerning the Great Salt Lake on April 9, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the first-floor hallway of Malouf Hall (Education).

Over the past semester, 13 of Westminster’s Elementary Science Methods students have been working closely with the North Star fourth graders to help generate interest and excitement in science through these collaborative experiments. One of Westminster’s goals is to contribute to the science and environmental education of K-12 students by linking teachers to project opportunities and linking curriculum to ongoing Great Salt Lake research activities. This is the first year Westminster has involved a Title I school in this program, and it hopes to continue to create outreach opportunities for other institutions in the future.
