Sustainable Sites
"Sustainable Sites" is the first of six categories in the LEED® checklist. This category includes selecting a good construction site, developing it well, maximizing open space, protecting the environment, and the building's surroundings.
- Stormwater is directed into an underground cistern that is later used for irrigation. The water is run through a sand and oil separator to minimize pollutants.
- No additional parking was added to the campus; instead three parking stalls are now reserved for Low Emitting, Fuel Efficient vehicles.
- There are many campus and community amenities within walking distance of Meldrum, including restaurants, shopping areas, a post office, and pharmacies.
- Bicycle racks and shower rooms were included in Meldrum to encourage more bicycle use.
