Westminster's Sociology Program

WhAT IS SOCIOLOGY?

In a nutshell, sociology is the study of society and everything that comprises it. Sociologists study social interactions, organizations, and institutions using critical analysis and empirical evidence. Sociology covers a broad range of topics, including everything from social revolutions and human rights to popular music. Many sociologists seek not only to understand the social world, but also to make lasting, positive differences in that world and the lives of people who inhabit it.

WHY STUDY SOCIOLOGY?

Sociology offers students the ability to critically analyze the world they live in and engage meaningfully with the people around them. Sociology students are passionate about a variety of issues and their involvement with society cultivates cultural empathy. These skills are valuable in many careers, as well as in personal interactions.
