Spanish Program Frequently Asked Questions

Does Westminster have a major in Spanish?

Yes, we offer an interdisciplinary major in Spanish-Latin American studies. 

What if i am already fluent in Spanish?

 Students that are already fluent in the language can double major in Spanish and a complimentary, secondary major. You will have the option to skip the basic language classes and take upper-division courses that focus on culture, Spanish and Latin American literature, and global studies. Sub topics may include Latin American documentaries, Environmental issues, Political Violence, Social Justice, Narcotic Trafficking, the Golden Age, Trans-Atlantic topics, Landscapes and Identities, etc.

How many hours do I need to complete a Spanish minor?

20 hours are required for an academic minor in Spanish. 22 hours are required for a teaching education) minor.

What is the average class size?

First year classes generally have 25 students; second year classes have between 15-20; and third year have between 10-15.

Can I transfer Spanish credit hours from another univeristy to put towards my Spanish minor at Westminster?

Yes, up to 12 transfer credits can be applied.
