UCUR Faculty Development Sessions

This year UCUR will host faculty development sessions on the evening before the conference, February 19, 2009, from 4-8:30 PM. Sessions will address issues of program development, getting started with undergraduate researchers, using technology, community based research, interdisciplinary projects, collaboration between institutions, as well as our ongoing conversations on water issues and urban and rural development in the state of Utah. Faculty from throughout the state are invited to participate and may attend the faculty development sessions separately or as part of the overall conference.

4:00-5:30 PM - Community-Based Research with Undergraduates, HWAC 351

Facilitator:  Brenda Marsteller Kowalewski, Weber State University

Presenters:  Jim Anderson, University of Utah; Steve Barney, Southern Utah University; Bill Grenney, Utah State University, and Brenda Marsteller Kowalewski, Weber State University. 

This session will provide participants with and a brief overview of community-based research and examples at four Utah universities. Models for conducting community-based research will be shared including syllabi and research assignments. Participants will also gain tips for best practices in community-based research.
