Westminster's Voice Program: Performance Opportunities

Opera Studio

 Westminster Opera Studio

Members of the Westminster Opera Studio earn Liberal Education credit while going through the entire process of learning a role for an opera, musical or operetta, from casting and preparation to rehearsal and performance. The course culminates in a fully staged performance in the Courage Theatre or a program of short scenes in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall. The course involves improvisation, movement and acting exercises, performance analysis and discussion of professional expectations for classically trained singers.

Chamber Singers

 Westminster Chamber Singers

The Chamber Singers are Westminster's elite, touring choir whose performances of sacred and secular music have been in demand both on and off campus. In recent years they have toured Washington D.C., New York City, Spain, France, and in 2008 they performed in the Cultural Olympics preceding the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Most Recently, the Chamber Singers toured Ireland, performing in the Cork International Choir Festival. Admittance into the ensemble requires an audition, held the first week of fall semester.

The Westminster Players

Westminster's vibrant theatre arts program presents seven fully-staged shows each year. Music students are encouraged to audition for musicals and any other theatre department performance during their time at Westminster. Many music students have gone on to pursue careers in musical theatre following their education at Westminster.

The Griffin5

The Griffin5

The Griffin5 is a men's vocal group formed from members of the Westminster Chamber Singers. The passion the "G5" has for music is exhibited in their repertoire which ranges from contemporary rock and pop to barbershop and classical. They perform at both on-campus events as well as at private venues.

Jazz Ensemble

Westminster Jazz Ensemble

This ensemble is actively trained in the art of jazz improvisation and typically performs at least once a semester. Students may participate in this ensemble with instruments of their choice; the instrumental make-up of the group changes from semester to semester, depending on the instruments students bring. The ensemble also welcomes singers interested in vocal jazz performance.

Westminster Chorale

The Westminster Chorale

The Westminster Chorale is open to all Westminster students, faculty, staff and members of the community. Prior vocal or choral experience is not required. The Chorale typically performs twice a semester on campus, and explores sacred and secular repertoire in a variety of classical, traditional, folk, and popular styles.
