Vocal Performance Emphasis

 

Bachelor of Arts in Music | Vocal Performance Emphasis

Students are accepted into the vocal performance program by audition. Successful candidates will complete eight credits in a single foreign language, preferably French or German. They will complete two semesters of private piano instruction, the full sequence of music theory, aural skills, and western music history, eight semesters of performance ensemble credit and sixteen credits of private vocal instruction. Singers are also expected to take vocal music electives, including English & Italian diction, French & German Diction, art song literature, opera literature vocal pedagogy and senior recital. In addition to singing in the Chamber Singers all four years, singers should also participate in the Westminster Opera Studio for four semesters.

 

Academic Emphasis

 

Bachelor of Arts in MusicAcademic Emphasis

Students are accepted into the academic music program by audition. Successful candidates will complete eight credits in a single foreign language, two credits of keyboard skills, the full sequence of music theory, aural skills, and western music history, six semesters of performance ensemble credit and four consecutive semesters private instruction. Singers in the program are also encouraged to take vocal music electives and participate in Chamber Singers and Westminster Opera Studio. This program is designed for students who pursuing two majors in preparation for graduate school, and for musical pre-law or pre-med students.

 

Music Minor

 

Music Minor | Vocal Performance Emphasis

Students are accepted into the music minor program by audition. Successful candidates will complete two credits of keyboard skills, music theory I & II, aural skills I & II, western music history I & II, six semesters of performance ensemble credit and six consecutive semesters private instruction. Singers in the music minor program are also encouraged to take vocal music electives and participate in Chamber Singers and Westminster Opera Studio.
