Connor excited about his return to Utah
By Jeremiah Jensen
It took several years but Tommy Connor has finally returned to his alma mater.
The former Utah point guard (1986-88, 1990)will join Larry Krystkowiak's staff as an assistant coach.
"He (Larry) wanted a Utah guy with a connection to the program and he feels I can do that," says Connor. "He needed a guy to recruit the state and elsewhere and that's my role, and a guy to coach, to be his right hand guy coaching."
Krystkowiak didn't have to look very far. Connor has spent the past 12 years building the Westminster College basketball program into a national power in NAIA hoops. The Griffins have gone 264-114 (.698) overall while proving even more dominant in Frontier play with a 126-40 (.759) mark.
"Coming back 15 years later, now is the right time and I was given the opportunity," he says. "At this point in my life this is the right move, the right challenge, I didn't have to move my family and that was key. Coming back to Utah is a big thing for me being a former player and a former coach here. I am hoping that helps this staff and this program in the future."
