Westminster Class of 2015 bonds via Facebook photos

Right now on Facebook, thousands of high school seniors are virtually meeting fellow members of the Class of 2015. But what’s the best way to organize so many introductions?
Here’s an idea: Admissions staffers at Westminster College sent each soon-to-be freshman a paper version of the school mascot, Griff the Griffin, and asked them to snap a photo for Facebook.
"Trippin’ with Griffin,” as the project is called, is reminiscent of the popular Flat Stanley paperdolls that traveled the globe when many of these students were in elementary school.
So far, several dozen students have posted photos on Westminster’s Facebook page. The Griffin has traveled from the university’s campus in Salt Lake City to lots of bedrooms, a snowy track, a California fire department and a fishtank. (The photo above is of Lindsey Pesek and the Griffin in her backyard in Denver.)
“If we can help students get to know each other before they get here, the first few days on campus will hopefully be a lot less stressful,” said Dana Simmons, senior manager of e-marketing for admissions at Westminster, a liberal arts college near the Rocky Mountains.
The college will continue to take submissions until the end of August — and one incoming freshman will receive a free flip video camera to record all of those hilarious freshman moments for Facebook).
