Sustainability is focus of third UCCD lecture at Westminster College
- Like this? Subscribe to get instant updates. The third lecture in The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy 2011-2012 Weldon J. Taylor Executive Lecture Series is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15 and will feature L. Hunter Lovins, President and Founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions. Ms. Lovins will discuss her book Climate Capitalism: The Business Case for Sustainability, co-authored by sustainability expert Dr. Boyd Cohen. Lovins maintains whether you believe or don’t believe the Earth’s climate is changing, the best way to rebuild our world’s economy, assure our national security, rebuild our decaying cities, and grow the job market is to do everything possible to invest in energy efficiency and renewable sources, inspire employees, and drive innovation. An attorney and sociologist, Lovins is on the faculty of the Bainbridge Graduate Institute which specializes in business education for a sustainable world, and is chief insurgent of the Madrone Project, “Curating a modular, rigorous curriculum to bring sustainability solutions to greater scale.” Ms. Lovins was the 1999 recipient of the Lindbergh Award, given annually to individuals whose work makes a significant contribution toward Charles Lindbergh’s vision of balancing technology and nature. She was named Time Magazine’s Hero of the Planet in 2000 and a “Green Business Icon” in 2009 by Newsweek. Lovins has co-authored nine books, including Natural Capitalism, Climate Protection Manual for Cities, and Transforming Industry in Asia. UCCD’s lecture series is free and open to the public. Ms. Lovins’ lecture is scheduled to begin 7 p.m. in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall, found in the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory at Westminster College, 1840 South 1300 East in Salt Lake City.
