Preserving ‘Spiral Jetty’
Supporters of Robert Smithson’s monumental earthwork are taking a three-pronged approach to preserving the piece. Dia Art Foundation is teaming up with the Utah Museum of Fine Art at the University of Utah and the Great Salt Lake Institute at Westminster College to ensure ‘Spiral Jetty’ stays intact and is available to more Utahns. On Thursday, we talk about the significance of the ‘Jetty’ and the collaboration to save it.
Great Salt Lake Institute, UMFA and Dia Art Foundation are sponsoring a public forum on “The Future of the Spiral Jetty” Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m., Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 S., Salt Lake City. More information at.
Conversation about the nearly 23 million acres of public lands in Utah often reveals the tensions between federal and state interests, recreationalists and preservationists. A new booklet tells stories about Utah’s canyon country by people who live there and on Thursday, we’ll talk about finding common ground in the public lands discussion.
