Westminster College's new $15 million health and athletic center opened Friday. The three-story, 84,500-square-foot facility - named in honor of Dolores Doré Eccles - is the largest facility on the school's campus at 1300 E. 1800 South in Salt Lake City, officials said. The center includes a swimming pool, exercise studio, weight room and a 46-foot climbing wall, running track, multiple sports courts and seats 1,200 people for athletic events, according to spokeswoman Helen Langan. The new center also is home for Westminster's "Griffins" athletic teams and the school's nursing and health sciences program. Contributions from 30 individuals and foundations helped make the $15 million facility possible, Langan said, adding that "the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation provided the lead gift." -
