In 1985, the Seventy-first Annual Meeting imposed censure pursuant to a report finding that the termination of a professor's appointment at Westminster College on grounds of financial exigency was not justified. The report also dealt with actions by the trustees to abandon the granting of tenure, limiting commitments thereafter to one-year appointments.

The case discussed in the investigating committee's report has been settled. The staff's discussions with the administration, begun in 2004, concerning revisions of the faculty handbook are still in process.
