Nurses who can administer anesthesia are in high demand - especially in rural hospitals that can't afford a full-fledged anesthesiologist. This fall, Westminster College will offer a new Masters of Science in Nurse Anesthesia -- the first program of its kind in the Intermountain West.
Dean of Nursing Jean Dyer says students will receive extra training in Utah's rural hospitals, nearly 60 percent of which rely solely on nurse anesthetists during surgical procedures. The program is in the final stages of accreditation. A Masters in Nurse Anesthesia at Westminster College will take 30 months and $40,000 to obtain.
