Westminster College will launch the Intermountain West's first advanced degree in nurse anesthesia this fall.

Fifteen students will make up the inaugural class of the 30-month program, which will certify them to administer anesthesia in operating rooms, delivery rooms and virtually every other clinical setting.
Student demand led officials at the Salt Lake City private college decided to build the program, said Jean Dyer, dean of the colleges's School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

"They did not want to travel so many miles to access a program," she said.

Students will earn a master of science in nurse anesthesia and be classified as a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
