Westminster College will be offering a wide variety of youth day and overnight camps this summer that will keep young minds and bodies active. The 2008 “Experience the WEST” camps will include the College Experience Camps, as well as basketball and lacrosse camps.

College Experience Camps
Westminster’s College Experience Camps give students entering grades 9 to 12 a taste of college campus life. Students can choose from five different overnight camps taught by Westminster faculty, and those entering grades 11 or 12 in the fall can earn college credit. Each camp is limited to 25 participants.

In the Writing Your World camp June 22 to 28, students at all skill levels will hone their fiction and nonfiction writing skills, participate in group projects, and receive peer feedback.

The Paleo camp June 22 to 28 will take students out of the classroom on field trips to Delta and Moab to learn about Utah’s natural history, collect and prepare fossils and study dinosaur tracks.

In Robotics camp July 13 to 19, students will design and build robots, study computer programming and find out about robotics competitions and possible future careers. Robotics camp is sponsored by the State of Utah Applied Science, Technology and Engineering Camps Fund.

Aviation camp July 13 to 19 will give students the opportunity to try Westminster’s flight simulators, learn about aerodynamics, aviation history, weather and human factors in flight, and receive flight lessons.

In the Money 101 camp July 13 to 19, students will invest in real time a million dollar portfolio, compete in trading sessions and learn from experienced market professionals.

They will also visit local investment firms and a Federal Reserve Bank to witness active trading. The Money 101 camp is sponsored by Chase Bank.

All College Experience Camps cost $639 per student, with the exception of Aviation, which costs $839, and Robotics, which costs $350 for high schoolers. Middle schoolers can attend Robotics camp during the day for $125.
