Land-starved Westminster College is considering an offer of Woodbury Corp. to lease a Sugar House building and use it as housing.

Woodbury Corp. has approached Salt lake City College as well with the idea of leasing a structure it would construct at2120 S. 1300 E. after razing an existing building on the sire said Westminster spokeswoman Krista DeAngelis.

“We’ve been exploring it; it’s not final or concrete yet,” she said. “We haven’t signed anything, But we like the idea.”

While Woodbury Corp. officials could not be reached for comment, DeAngelis said it was her understanding the new building would contain about 120 units of student housing in addition to retail and classroom space and perhaps office space for two on-campus organizations—the Center for Civic engagement, an entity focused on community service; and the Institute for New Enterprise, which teams students with Entrepreneurs.

Having reached capacity at 27-acre campus, Westminster has also submitted a proposal to purchase from Salt Lake City the former Garfield Elementary School, an approximately 13,000 square-foot building at 1838 S. 1500 E.

Westminster students have their own concierge service that offers discounts on local entertainment.
