International Admissions

You Are Welcome Here

International students are an integral part of the diverse and vibrant student body at Westminster University. Westminster has international students from all over the world who participate in athletics, music, honors, community service, extracurricular clubs, and many other activities on campus.

Who is an International Student?

  • Students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States
  • Students intending to stay in the United States temporarily in non-immigrant status
  • Students seeking to enter the United States on a temporary visa (most commonly an F-1 visa)

Location

Westminster is located in the offbeat Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Restaurants, movie theaters, shops, parks, coffee shops, and local events all within walking distance in the neighborhood, and the free public transportation pass you get as a student gives you easy access to the whole city. Salt Lake City has many restaurants, shopping centers, art festivals, concerts, sporting events, and more. Situated right next to the Rocky Mountains, Westminster is also close to 5 national parks, the Great Salt Lake, and 10 ski resorts.

If professional experience is something you want to pursue, the surrounding area offers an abundance of businesses you might explore for internships, job shadowing, and more. Salt Lake City is home to countless leaders in the technology, healthcare, hospitality, and financial sectors, including several Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies that are headquartered here. Utah also neighbors the headquarters of other major industry leaders in the surrounding western states. Many Westminster students have learned from, interned for, and worked with organizations such as Apple, Delta Airlines, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, the Utah Jazz, the Great Salt Lake Institute, and more.

You can experience a virtual tour of the Westminster campus from your desktop, laptop, or cell phone.

Academics

Westminster is a private, non-profit, accredited, and comprehensive liberal arts university. Here, you will be encouraged to fuel your curiosity and ask all sorts of questions. At Westminster, your undergraduate or graduate education is more than just attending lectures and doing coursework to earn a degree—it’s about becoming a lifelong learner and leading a successful and impactful life.

Westminster’s accomplished faculty encourage active learning, academic rigor, and critical thinking in order to help you discover your own identity as a thinker, speaker, and writer. And, class sizes are small, which means the faculty in your academic program are available for any individualized assistance you need. International students also have access to a wide variety of support services, including the Office for Global Engagement.

Academic Programs

Westminster offers more than 50 undergraduate areas of study and graduate programs in 5 academic schools.

International students are eligible to study in all academic programs except for the following, due to their heavily online program format:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration program
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice program
  • Project-Based Master of Business Administration program

Student Life

Your experience at Westminster consists of much more than just going to class and studying. Personal growth and exploring your interests are a fundamental part of student life. Westminster has more than 40 campus clubs and organizations, as well as multiple campus centers and offices you can get involved with. Odds are, if you’re interested in or passionate about something, someone else probably is too.

If you are interested in working part time, international students on F-1 visa can work up to 20 hours a week on campus while taking a full-time course load. Almost all areas of campus—including admissions, financial aid, campus dining, etc.—hire student employees. On-campus jobs are posted through the Career Center.
