Glen Speilmans '97
Glen Speilmans graduated Westminster in 1997 with a BS in psychology and is currently the associate professor of psychology at Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul, MN. In his position, Glen has the opportunity to work with clinical trials, read about research in his field, design and teach classes, and work directly with students. The emphasis on critical, analytical, and integrative thinking he learned at Westminster is embedded in his teaching, as his classes emphasize the same values. He said his work with ASWC as a social science senator taught him teamwork and how team members differ in experience but can contribute in their own ways. His position constantly requires writing, from writing scholarly articles and peer-reviewing to commenting on student papers. Social responsibility and ethical awareness are two major players in his work, he says, as he attempts to debunk claims made by major pharmaceutical firms or expose bogus marketing campaigns in an attempt to get the best treatments to patients all around the world.
