Aviation Events

Career Panels

We regularly bring industry professionals to campus to give students opportunities to learn about a variety of aviation careers. Panelists have included captains and first officers from regional and major airlines, corporate pilots, air ambulance pilots, military pilots, aviation management professionals, air traffic controllers, designated examiners, FAA personnel, and others.

Panelists continue to serve as mentors to our students and are valuable in terms of providing career advice, internship opportunities, and additional networking connections.

Aviation Resume Workshops

The application and interview process for aviation jobs can be very different from other types of jobs. We understand the complexities and unique aspects of the aviation industry and we help our students navigate through those complexities. Every semester we conduct a specialized resume workshop for our aviation students that includes presentations from Human Resources Directors, Chief Pilots, and other aviation insiders who share valuable insights and suggestions that allow our students to set themselves apart from other applicants.

Applying for any type of scholarship can be a confusing and time-consuming process--especially if you haven't applied for scholarships in the past.

We are here to help you navigate through the application process. We provide assistance by regularly offering scholarship workshops designed specifically for aviation students, publishing lists of available scholarships in our monthly aviation newsletter, and providing guidance and feedback to students who would like help with scholarship essays or letters of recommendation.

Aviation Internship Workshops

Aviation students are invited to attend an internship information workshop every fall in order to learn more about the many aviation internships available to Westminster students. A wide variety of local and long distance internships are available to Aviation Management and Flight students. To learn more, read this handout, visit the Career Resource Center website, or contact the Director of Aviation Student support at 801.832.2671.

Service Projects

The day before fall classes begin, Westminster students participate in day-long service projects all over the Salt Lake area.

Aviation students have volunteered their time working at the historic Wendover Airfield, Hawthorne Elementary School, and with South Salt Lake.

The Wendover Airfield is undergoing extensive renovations as aviation enthusiasts are working to preserve this important piece of WWII-era history.

Our students have worked to clear out the Enola Gay hangar, remove nails from rafters, paint the portions of the hangar that were office spaces for military personnel and restore an F-86. We look forward to our continued support of this important project. To learn more about the Wendover Airfield, the ongoing restoration efforts, and the annual air show click here.

Additional service projects and volunteer efforts have included: helping Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops earn merit badges, conducting day-long aviation workshops for Navy Sea Cadets and students participating in the Southwest Airlines Adopt-A-Pilot program, and visiting local elementary schools to teach students math and science concepts from an aviation perspective. Westminster aviation students have also volunteered at the Children's Center, and the Great Salt Lake Nature Center.
