The Lectures series event
Lectures in Entrepreneurship is coordinated by the Center of Entrepreneruship at Westminster College and has been an extremely successful series event over the past 5 years. The Center brings in a wide variety of prominent entrepreneurs to speak, tell their stories, and share their experiences and keys to success. All of the lectures are free to the public in the BIll and Vieve Gore School of Business (click for campus map). It is also offered as an optional course for credit for all Westminster student. Everyone is invited to share in this invaluable experience.
ALL LECTURES ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC. They are held in the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business (click for campus map).
Westminster students can also take the course for credit or join us for the experience.

March 16th - Women in Technology
Cydni Tetro, CEO -- 6:30PM:
Cydni is CEO & founder at 3DplusMe, a SaaS platform for retail personalization leveraging 3D printing. She is also an Operating Partner at Mercato, a growth and private equity firm, and faculty for the Goldman Sachs 10k small business initiative nationally and locally.
Prior to 3DplusMe she spent 4 years working as an Entrepreneur in Residence with Disney Research & Imagineering on Technology Commercialization. She has worked with over 200 companies building their growth and customer acquisition strategies with a strong emphasis on companies in the mobile, social, digital media and SaaS space. Prior to that she was the COO for FamilyLink.com, a platform on Facebook that grew to over 80 Million users with 26 Million monthly active users, it was acquired by Ancestory.com. Before that she was Chief Marketing & Product Officer for NextPage, an enterprise search company, which was sold to Proofpoint and Fast Search & Transfer.
Tetro sits on the board of a number of companies and co-founded and serves as the President for the Women Tech Council, which has over 4000 members.
Cydni holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s in computer science from Brigham Young University.
Jana Francis, Founder and President - 8:00PM:
Jana Francis is the Founder & President of the Daily Deal ecommerce site Steals.com. Founded in 2008, Jana turned her idea into a multi-million dollar enterprise without loans or investors. She is an Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in Utah, a mom of 3, and is know for using social media to create genuine relationships between her business and fans.
March 23rd - Healthcare
Donna Milavetz, MD, MPH, Founder, CEO and Chief Medical Officer - 6:30PM:
Dr. Milavetz is a licensed medical doctor and internist with nearly 20 years of clinical experience. She also holds a master's degree in public health from the prestigious University of Minnesota, where she completed her internal medicine residency in 1995. She trained at one of Harvard's teaching hospitals and has also worked at the Mayo Clinic.
Her particular area of expertise is developing and running on-site medical clinics and wellness programs. She is passionate about advancing the quality of community healthcare, specifically, in improving healthcare outcomes while driving down wasteful medical spending. Additionally, she is a highly sought after public speaker on a variety of medical topics, including preventive medicine focused-practice.
Dr. Milavetz is the former medical director of the McKay Dee Women's Health Center in Ogden, Utah. Currently, she is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Utah and Minnesota. Originally from Arizona, Dr. Milavetz lives with her husband (a cardiologist) and their three children.
Amelia Wilcox, Founder and CEO - 8:00PM:
Amelia Wilcox is the Founder and CEO at Incorporate Massage, a national onsite corporate massage company that’s been bootstrapped from the ground up. Recently named one of Utah’s Forty Under 40 and awarded National Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year, Amelia has exponentially grown her company from a local solo living-room operation to an emerging national brand. Amelia is a “momtrepreneur” who truly believes in providing flexible employment opportunities for parents and building a meaningful, successful business without sacrificing family.
March 30th - The Serial Entrepreneur
Jason Olsen, Founder and President, Vice President - 6:30PM:
Jason was raised in Atlanta, GA and at the age of 16 started his first e-commerce business selling aftermarket car parts and accessories. Within the first year, revenues were almost $200,000 and the site was receiving over 30,000 hits a month. In 2004 he moved to Utah to attend BYU, graduating with a degree in marketing. Shortly thereafter he partnered up with his father and brother in a wholesale car operation. Eventually the business evolved into Prestman Auto, which now sells retail vehicles to customers all over the country. Currently, Prestman Auto is one of the largest independent dealerships in Utah and is the highest rated dealership in Utah on Google.
In 2009, Jason teamed up with his brother Shaun to create a startup called Image Studios 360, which is a studio salon concept that takes large, vacant retail space (around 5,000 to 6,000 square feet), and subdivides it into 25 to 30 smaller, individual studios ranging from 100 to 250 square feet each. These studios are designed to function as mini-salons, and they house one to three salon professionals and their clientele. There are now five Image Studios locations open along the Wasatch Front with a total of 175 studios. In early 2015 they launched Image Studios 360 Franchise LLC which sells franchises across the country.
Jason is also co-owner of Club JAM, a popular Salt Lake City nightclub and co-owner of J&T Architecture, a local firm specializing in custom homes and commercial/retail build outs. He is a private pilot, avid paraglider, and skier.
David Terry, Founder and CEO - 8:00PM:
As an entrepreneur at heart, David has started several businesses including a custom cabinet shop, commercial refrigeration company, commercial mechanical company, and most recently an industrial drone company. He was part of the first Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses cohort in Utah and graduated in May 2013.
In the wake of the 2008–2009 market crash David started Spartan Mechanical. With the tight capital markets and economy, he was quick to realize the importance of organically funding this venture. He focused on managing cash flows through financial analysis and forecasting, and has led the company to triple in size and above average profitability.
With 20 years of aviation background, David has founded Silverhawk Aerial Imaging, a drone services company. Through David’s leadership and vision, Silverhawk was awarded a rare exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate drone aircraft for commercial/industrial applications. He is considered a subject matter expert and has presented to numerous Private, State and Federal entities. Silverhawk has multiple contracts with large companies such as Discovery Channel, Warner Bros, JUB Engineers, and others.
David is a serial entrepreneur, who loves the strategy and excitement of building successful companies, and enjoys collaborating with other entrepreneurs.
David lives in South Ogden Utah, with his wife and 5 kids and enjoys hunting and endurance cycling.
April 6th - BenefitCorps Panel Night
Davis Smith obtained his BA in International Studies from BYU, moved on to obtain an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and finished it off with an MBA from The Wharton School in Entrepreneurial Management. He has founded four companies, PoolTables.com, Dinda.com.br, Baby.com.br, and Cotopaxi ,where he still remains the CEO today. He is also on the board of the United Nations Foundation as a Global Entrepreneur.
Lewis Peck, President and Owner - 8:00PM Panel:
Lewis Peck has been an advocate on building a strong economy based on reducing costs of doing business through waste reduction and recycling. This is exemplified through 30 years of experience in Solid Waste and Recycling and 19 years with Waste Management Recycle America. We do this for all types of businesses: retail, manufacturing and governmental agencies throughout the western US. Specifically, Lewis has been with Interwest Paper, Pro Baler Services, and Pro Polymers for 12 years. Furthermore, Peck was a member of the Recycling Coalition of Utah and is currently on the board of P3.
Kelly Lake, Owner - 8:00PM Panel:
Kelly Lake is one of the owners of LeCroissant Catering and Events. Her passion and love for the business shines through as she takes time to attend several events a month and is in the offices and kitchen each day, working side by side with the employees and seeing to the day-to-day operations of the business. In addition to being an owner, she is also an event coordinator and can be caught overseeing even the smallest details of both the business and her events.
Kelly and the team at LeCroissant Catering and Events were adamant about becoming a Benefit Corporation. When Utah S.B 133 was passed, paving the way for Benefit Corporation status in Utah, LeCroissant Catering & Events was one of the original 13 business to register.
Kelly excels at working and strengthening company friendships, researching food and is enthusiastic about discovering new recipes.

April 13th - Franchising Wizards
Alexis was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended East High School where she was a swimmer and water polo player. She received a scholarship to swim and play water polo at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania where her team won the Division 1 National Championship in 1995. Alexis graduated in Mathematics Education and taught 7th through 11th grade in Utah and Michigan. After eight years of teaching she walked into a hair salon called Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids to get her daughter’s haircut. It only took this one experience for her to know she wanted to be a part of the brand. She and her husband bought the store in Draper, Utah and have opened six other stores and have overseen the opening of another three stores in Utah. In December of 2014 Alexis and her husband, Neal, were approached by the Franchisor and asked if they would buy the Cookie Cutters Franchise Company for the United States. Alexis and Neal now run Cookie Cutters Franchising and Alexis also works with FranNet to help others become educated about the franchise industry and what opportunities are available in Utah.
Sidharth Oberoi, Co-founder and President - 8:00PM:
Sidh was born in New Delhi, India, and moved with his family to the United States at age 3. A voracious learner, he holds a B.S. from the University of Utah in Biology.
A National Debate Finalist, with vast educational training including Singapore Math, Sidh has been teaching students in various capacities for the past 9 years. He is passionate about integrating 21st century skills into student learning to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in the future. Sidh was recently the youngest recipient of Utah Business's 20 in their 20's award.
Sidh Co-Founded Zaniac in 2012 with the help of Paul Zane Pilzer. Sidh was initially hired for the role of Chief Academic Officer at Zaniac and still retains that as part of his roles and responsibilities. Sidh develops new curricula that explores STEM through game-based approaches that make learning fun and engaging.
Sidh also serves as President, overseeing day to day operations of the company and working to expand the business in an effort to bring Zaniac’s unique approach to as many students as possible nationwide through Franchising efforts.
April 20th - The Great Outdoors
The Managing Director of UA2, Aaron Ollivier has been an entrepreneur for more than a decade. He is also the CEO of Precision Concrete Cutting who has won three consecutive Top 50 Franchisee Awards and was named #1 for Franchise Satisfaction in 2013. Passionate about aiding start-up businesses, Aaron Ollivier founded Utah Angels 2 and is focused on the overall economic growth in Utah and surrounding states.
Matt Sterbenz, Founder, Sales and Marketing Director - 8:00PM:
A mogul skier raised in Wisconsin, Matt moved to Lake Tahoe after graduating from the University of Minnesota in 2000 to become a professional skier under the discipline of Slopestyle. Through his competitive accomplishments including the Xgames in Aspen, Matt garnered a reputation for vision and leadership within the industry and started the rider owned ski company, 4FRNT, out of the small ski town of Truckee, California. 13 years later, 4FRNT Skis is a registered Utah company, operating in Retail, Wholesale, Distribution and Manufacturing. The company is ran by 8 full time employees and supported by 12 international distributors around the world. Matt and his company have won many awards for their products including a Gold in Sochi at the 2014 Winter Games in Men’s Halfpipe. Additionally, Matt is a Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Alumni. The company welcomes skiers to visit its local headquarters to explore the companies unique design approach and to witness the creation of their highly acclaimed products.
April 27th - Social Impact Panel Night
Chid co-founded Liberty & Justice, Africa’s first Fair Trade Certified™ apparel manufacturer, after working in entertainment, technology, and finance. He was born in Liberia, West Africa, but left as an infant when his father became the nation’s ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, with residence in Bonn. His family was later exiled in the United States. In 2009, Chid returned to Africa after 28 years abroad. Inspired by the Nobel Peace Prize winning Liberian Women’s Peace Movement, Chid co-founded Africa’s first Fair Trade Certified apparel factory to provide economic opportunities for internally displaced women, who on balance, were vulnerable to rampant unemployment and economic exclusion. He is currently leading L&J’s rapid expansion in Liberia and throughout the region.
In addition to his work at Liberty & Justice, Chid served as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Liberia’s Monrovia Business Startup Center (BSC). The BSC was founded by Spark, a Dutch NGO, for whom Chid manages the Ignite Fund (Liberia) – an equity investment fund that makes strategic investments in Liberian Pico-cap companies with high growth potential. He also speaks internationally on social entrepreneurship and impact investing – recently at Harvard, Stanford, and Princeton Universities, as well as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and IE in Madrid, Spain.
Chid was recognized by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in her 2011 State of the Nation Address for his leadership in shaping trade policy and indigenous Liberian entrepreneurship. He is a recipient of the 2014 Salzburg Global Fellowship, 2014 Global Innovation Summit Ecosystem Award, 2013 New African Press 50 African Trailblazers under 50, 2011 SVN Social Innovation Award, 2010 Cordes Fellowship, a Yoxi Portfolio SIR (Social Innovation Rockstar) and works as an advisor and board member to a number of high-impact organizations including GIIRS (the Global Impact Investment Rating System), The Liberia Marathon, FACE Africa, and the Opportunity Collaboration.
Soren Simonsen, AIA, AICP, LEED, AP, MACL, NCARB, Founder and Presiden - 8:00PM Panel:
Søren Simonsen is a social entrepreneur, urban designer, architect, educator, and communitybuilder. Over the past three decades, including 17 years of public service as an appointed and elected official, he has launched social enterprises, curated livable cities, and created sustainable buildings in Utah and the West. Søren earned a Master of Arts in Community Leadership from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, with an emphasis on organizational leadership, public policy and community organizing. His research thesis focused on urban development and natural resources. He previously received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, with an emphasis in urban design, sustainable development, and community and regional planning. Søren has been an executive officer for 15 businesses and social ventures, including eleven nonprofit organizations. He is the Executive Director of Community Studio, a consulting company where he directs sustainable urban design, architecture and real estate development initiatives. He is also Founder and President of Impact Hub Salt Lake, a locally owned affiliate of social enterprise co-working and incubation spaces in 75 cities across the globe. Søren is a visiting professor at the University of Utah, where he teaches and advises courses in urban design, architecture, regional planning and sustainable real estate development. He speaks at colleges and universities, national and local conferences, and writes extensively as a champion for social entrepreneurship, sustainable and livable cities, ecology and environmental stewardship, water and energy conservation, arts and culture, active transportation, public health, and human rights. Søren extends his outreach through professional and community service. He helped launch the Jordan River Commission, and has served for the past three years as a Commissioner. He was elected to the Salt Lake City Council in 2005, and re-elected in 2009, and chaired the city council in 2012, cited as a “dynamic year” by the Salt Lake Tribune. He previously chaired the Salt Lake Historic Landmark Commission and the Mayor’s Environmental Advisory Committee, and served as Vice-Chair of the Utah Quality Growth Commission. He has served on numerous local and national boards and committees for professional and community organizations, Søren has received broad peer recognition for his design, public policy and advocacy work. In 2015 he was elevated as a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects and recognized as Utah’s Meritorious Planner by the Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association. Other honors include the AIA Utah Bronze Medal, AIA National Young Architect Award, and four Utah Best of State Gold Medals in Community Development. His work has been recognized with 28 Envision Utah Governor’s Quality Growth Awards, as well as numerous citations from chapters of the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Landscape Architects, American Planning Association, and U.S. Green Building Council.
Robert Bell, Co-founder - 8:00PM Panel:
Robert is an entrepreneur with a passion for technology, impact, sustainability, and education. He believes entrepreneurship has the power to make the world a better place. Robert has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA focusing on entrepreneurship.
Robert has an interesting and well-rounded background. He started his career as an engineer in the energy field, working in the exploration and production side of the oil & gas world. Robert recently ran one of five DOE Innovation Ecosystem cleantech clusters called the Energy Commercialization Center (ECC) at the University of Utah. Robert is also the co-founder and chairman of the board of Sustainable Startups, as well as working closely with the Larry H. Miller Group and Miller family as the Vice President of Miller Inspiration.
Sara Day, Co-founder and Director of Community Engagement - 8:00PM Panel:
University of Utah graduate and self-proclaimed “local enthusiast “ Sara Day is a Co-founder and the Director of Community Engagement for Even Stevens Sandwiches. Combining her now 10 years in the service industry with her love for the community Sara has played a crucial role in the creation of Even Stevens Non-Profit Partner program that now boasts 16 non-profit partners (with 12 more on the way!). She also runs @local_enthusiast_slc, an Instagram account aimed at bringing people together over shared interests in SLC. When not working Sara enjoys camping all over this glorious state, Zumba, and her 3 year old standard poodle Cash.
