When you apply and are admitted to Westminster College, we automatically consider you for merit-based scholarship and grant awards. In the fall 2012 semester, 87% of new transfer students received a renewable merit scholarship or grant. Merit scholarships are based on a student's cumulative transfer GPA. Students with less than 30 earned college credit hours will be also be required to submit a high school transcript and the high school GPA may be used for determination of merit scholarship eligibility. 

Even if you don’t meet the minimum merit aid requirements, there is need-based financial aid available that is awarded on an individual basis to students who have filed the FAFSA and have demonstrated financial need.

Transfer Incentive Award

We are awarding twenty awards of $2,500 per year to transfer students* who will attend Westminster. Even better, the $2,500 awards are in addition to merit scholarships offered by the college!

HOW TO APPLY

1.  GET ADMITTED to Westminster College by completing our admissions application and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. 

2.  SUBMIT AN ESSAY of approximately 500 words detailing how you will enrich our community of learners.

3.  Applicants are encouraged to schedule a time to visit campus to meet with a representative of the Scholarship CommitteeInterviews via telephone and Skype may also be arranged.

The Scholarship Committee will select the fifteen recipients by evaluating your academic record, the quality of your involvement in the community, and your potential to contribute to Westminster’s learning environment. Remember, to be considered for the Transfer Incentive Award you must apply and be admitted to Westminster by the admissions deadline and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA from all colleges attended.  

THE FINE PRINT
*A transfer student is a student who has attended any college or university after graduating from high school or completing a GED. Scholarship and grant funds awarded by Westminster are not to exceed full-tuition. Recipients of full-tuition scholarships will not be considered for this award. The essay for the TIA is in addition to any documents required for admission. When submitting the TIA essay, please indicate that it is for the Transfer Incentive Award and ensure your name is each page.TIA is granted for eight semesters of study or receipt of bachelor’s degree (whichever occurs first). It is renewable for those eight semester provided you remain in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress. Semesters exempted through transfer credit and enrolled semesters which were not satisfactory do count toward the eight semester maximum. Recipients must register as full time (12 or more semester hours), degree-seeking students in each term that funds are received. Terms and Conditions for Receipt of Westminster College Merit-based Awards also apply. TIA applicants who have not been admitted prior to the admissions deadline will only be considered for the award if all admissions application materials are postmarked on or before the admissions deadline. Recipients of the Transfer Incentive Award will be notified on a rolling basis.

Westminster College Award for Exemplary Achievement

Three scholarships of $25,000 per year will be awarded to students who will attend Westminster College as members of the Fall 2014 entering class. In addition, twenty-five scholarships of $4,000 will be awarded to students on top to their merit-based scholarship. Both freshman and transfer students are eligible to apply.

In rewarding exceptional achievement, the College seeks to honor students who will enrich our community of learners as they embody the high value we place on excellence. Special consideration will be given to students who demonstrate innovative, motivational leadership that has impacted their schools, workplaces, or communities. Consideration will also be given to applicants who have demonstrated resilience in the face of hardships, disability, difficult personal situations, or other disadvantage.

The Exemplary Achievement Award recognizes students who have achieved excellence in one of the following categories:

  • Significant participation in community service and civic participation

  • Work experience and entrepreneurship 

  • Resilience in the face of hardship or disadvantage

  • Promoting equity and understanding

  • Outstanding leadership

  • Distinction in the Arts, Humanities, or Sciences

  • Alvin & Helene Richer Academic Excellence
    Scholarship (Minimum 3.7 GPA; 27 ACT or
    equivalent )

Students may apply for consideration in one category. At least three scholarships will be awarded in each category. The Scholarship Committee will select the recipients by evaluating the level of achievement, depth of involvement, and quality of contribution among the applicants. Applicants must apply and be admitted to Westminster by the scholarship deadline and be in good academic standing at their current school. This award requires a separate application that is due in the admissions office by 5:00 pm on February 3, 2014. Finalists will be notified by March 5, 2014. Need-based Aid

Undergraduate transfer students can apply for federal, state, and institutional aid programs by completing a FAFSA. Check out information on loans, scholarships, and work study programs for the best options for you. If you are transferring to Westminster College starting fall semester, you will need to complete a FAFSA or a Renewal FAFSA and send it to the Department of Education. Students who are transferring to Westminster starting spring or summer semester and have already completed a FAFSA will need to make sure that Westminster College is listed on their Student Aid Report. If not, call our Financial Aid Office at (801) 832-2500 and we can assist you in electronically adding Westminster to your financial aid application.
