L. S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center

Westminster University is committed to empowering students to lead full and healthy lives of learning, accomplishment, and service. In the new L. S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center, students will access resources and services that support learning and healthy living through their physical, emotional, intellectual, financial, social, spiritual, and environmental wellness. The center will bring together a network of offices and services united in ensuring student wellness:

• Student Health Services
• Mental Health Counseling Center
• Interfaith and Spirituality
• Center for Financial Wellness

The center will add space to accommodate classes and programming open to community members. A teaching and demonstration kitchen, featuring multiple cooktops and stations, will create opportunities for nutritional education and instruction. The building will wrap around an inner courtyard with space for relaxation, meditation, gardening, and other mindfulness activities.

About the Construction Project

The L. S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center will be an approximately 11,000 sq. ft., 2-story facility located at the southeast corner of campus, replacing 3 university-owned houses. The building will be constructed to the highest standards of sustainability, focused on a net-zero approach. Construction, equipping, and related costs, including an endowment for the facility's ongoing maintenance and upkeep, are estimated to come to $9.1 million.

Location

The L. S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center will be located on 1300 East, just south of the Dolores Doré Eccles Ceramics Center, replacing 3 university-owned houses. Those addresses were 1858, 1860 and 1870.

Westminster understands that construction will impact our neighbors temporarily. The project team will do their best to lessen disruptions and keep the community informed about the process.

Updates

• Thursday, April 18: A large crane will be using the fire lane just west of the building site. Please avoid the area.
• Thursday, March 14: Over the next 3 weeks, brickwork and exterior finishes will be completed with intermittent truck and forklift deliveries from the fire lane on 1300 East. Please approach the area with caution or avoid that area if possible. Disruptions will be 1-2 hours in length.
• Thursday, Feb. 1: A large crane will be using the fire lane just west of the building site. Please avoid the area.
• Tuesday, Jan. 23: A large crane will be using the fire lane just west of the building site. Please avoid the area.
• Saturday, Jan. 20: A large crane will be using the fire lane just west of the building site. Please avoid the area.
• Thursday, Jan. 11–Friday, Jan. 12: A large crane will be using the fire lane on the east end of the Residential Village to unload materials from trucks. Please avoid the area.
• Monday, Jan. 8–Tuesday, Jan. 9: Construction crews will be using the fire lane just west of the building site to accommodate a large crane. Westminster has plans in place in the case of an emergency. Please avoid the area.
• Tuesday, Dec. 5–Friday, Dec. 8: Concrete pours will occur on these days between 8–10:00 a.m. The fire lane will be blocked, but Westminster has plans in place in the case of an emergency. Please avoid the area.
• Monday, Nov. 20: A large semi-truck will be parked on the north/northwest side of the ceramics building. A forklift will take material from the truck to the west side of the project site. A crane will then move the material into the construction site. The road will be closed for about 2 hours in the morning. Please avoid the area.
• Tuesday, Nov. 14: Concrete pour will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end by 7:00 p.m. The 1300 E Residential Village entrance into campus will be closed. The fire lane will be blocked, but Westminster has plans in place in the case of an emergency.
• Wednesday, Oct. 25: Concrete pour will occur 2–4:30 p.m. The fire lane will be blocked, but Westminster has plans in place in the case of an emergency. The 1300 E Residential Village entrance into campus will be closed.
• Thursday, Oct. 19: Concrete pour will occur 12–3:00 p.m. The fire lane will be blocked, but Westminster has plans in place in the case of an emergency. Please avoid the area during the pour.
• Tuesday, Oct. 17: Concrete pours will occur from about 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. The fire lane will be blocked, but Westminster has plans in place in the case of an emergency. Please avoid the area during the pour.
• Wednesday, Oct. 11: Construction crews will be using the fire lane to pour concrete from about 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The university has plans in place should an emergency arise while the fire lane is blocked. Try to avoid the residential entrance off 1300 E on Oct. 11.
• Tuesday, Oct. 3: Crews will pour concrete footings. The fire lane just west of the building site and just east of the Residential Village will be semi-blocked 1–5:00 p.m. In the event of an emergency, there are plans for moving trucks out of the way. It may be challenging to get around the concrete trucks during the pour. Please avoid the area and use other campus entrances.
