Program Description: Fulbright related grants provide for the international exchange of scholars in order to foster research and advanced study, or undertake teaching assistantships, for one year in a foreign country. Several kinds of grants are available. Application Procedures: One application to the Institute of International Education will put the applicant into consideration for all appropriate grants. Applicants should consult IIEs annual handbook, Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Fulbright and Related Grants for Graduate Study and Research Abroad, for the specific criteria in each country for the awards listed below. Fulbright Full Grants: This program proves round trip transportation, a language orientation course, tuition and other university fees, book and research allowances, maintenance for the academic year based on living costs in the host country, and supplemental health and accident insurance. Fulbright Travel Grants: This program provides round-trip transportation to the country where the student will pursue studies for one academic year, supplemental health and accident insurance, and the cost of an orientation course abroad, if applicable. Travel grants are available only to Germany, Hungary and Italy. Foreign and Private Grants: The specific benefits and special requirement of grants offered by foreign governments, universities, and private donors are found in the annual booklet mentioned above. Where the awards do not cover the entire expense of the foreign study, candidates are expected to cover the additional costs from their own funds. Teaching Assistantships: Currently available in Belgium/Luxembourg, Chile, France, Germany, Hungary, Korea, Romania, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey. The assistantships are generally for teaching positions in English conversation at secondary schools and teacher-training institutions or for teaching positions in English and American studies and/or literature in secondary schools.
