What is unique about Westminster College’s Arts Administration Degree?

Westminster College is the only school with an undergraduate degree in Arts Administration in the Intermountain Region. The foundation of this degree is based on the strength of the Gore School of Business and the dynamism of the arts programs.

The program offers learning opportunities based on experience outside the classroom as an important component of the program. It is an ideal combination of academic coursework, internships and extracurricular opportunities which help students become qualified to work in such areas as marketing, fund raising, operations, and general arts management.

Is it for me?

The Arts Administration degree merges the study of the arts with concentrations in business and communications. The degree equips students with a liberal arts education combined with a comprehensive overview of the technology of business: leadership, finance, and marketing. As a result, students combine a comprehensive education in one of the three arts disciplines of art, music and theatre with a broad understanding of the business world that emphasizes management and administrative skills. The program underscores the application of information learned in the classroom to hands-on, relevant work experiences, including volunteer activities, internships and paid work both on- and off-campus.

Typically, students participate in on-campus arts events while earning their degree. In addition, the local arts community provides students with numerous opportunities for internships, career networking, and participation in special projects and events. So while students participate in productions and exhibitions on campus produced by the Theatre Department, Art Department, and Music Program, students are encouraged to also take advantage of the many related employment options in and around the Salt Lake community. In addition to art organizations, opportunities can include advertising firms, the music and recording industries, video and film companies and other organizations within the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.

The training students acquire while earning this degree gives them the flexibility to attempt careers in many fields, not limited to either business or the arts. Students will acquire portable skills for work in a wide variety of the nonprofit arts sector.
