New Gore School of Business Dean Brings Global Perspectives to Westminster

Dr. Jin Wang from the University of Tampa will join Westminster in July

SALT LAKE CITY – With the experience and vision to take the college to its next level of excellence, Westminster has hired Dr. Jin Wang as the new dean of the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business (GSB). Dr. Wang joins the college after a nationwide search and will begin his position on July 1, 2011.

As the hub of Westminster’s most innovative, experimental and international programming, the Gore School of Business will benefit from Dr. Wang’s mix of administrative skills and international expertise.

“Jin brings a global context to the Gore School that is the future of business education,” explained Dr. James Seidelman, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “In addition to helping us navigate the decisions and the direction of the school, we believe he can provide us with additional opportunities with our college’s intersections in Asia.”

Dr. Wang most recently held the position of associate provost and dean of academic services at The University of Tampa, and has held a variety of administrative and academic positions at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Rowan University. He earned his doctorate degree in economics from Kansas State University. Additionally, he has served as the founding president of the Council of Chinese American Deans and Presidents, chairman of the board of directors of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay and as a board member of Sias International University Foundation - the first American university in China.

“It is my great pleasure and distinct honor to join the Westminster College community,” said Wang. “I look forward to working with dedicated and talented faculty and staff, to helping Westminster students succeed in their personal and professional lives, and to leading the GSB to new levels of excellence.”

With more than 1,100 students, the GSB offers a diverse portfolio of undergraduate and graduate business programs, and also houses the college’s Institute for New Enterprise, the Center for China-America Business Studies, the Sam and Aline Skaggs Flight Operations Center and the Center for Financial Analysis. The Gore School recently implemented several innovative new project-based programs, as well as the Donghua-Westminster Global MBA program, that have propelled the school into the 21st Century. The Project-based MBA program and Bachelor of Business (BBA) programs are one-of-a-kind competency-based degrees where students must prove not just what they know, but what they can do with what they know. The Donghua-Westminster Global MBA program, offered in Shanghai, allows Chinese students to receive a dual degree from both institutions.

“We believe Jin will be not only be a wonderful addition to the college, but to the business community as well,” added Seidelman. “He has great promise with building the types of external partnerships and relationships we need, and has the experience and vision to take our school to the next level of excellence.”
