Westminster Selected as a Top Military Friendly School

G.I .Jobs lists Westminster in top 20% of military-friendly schools in the U.S.

SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster is pleased to announce that G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has once again recognized Westminster as a top “Military Friendly School.” The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.

“Westminster has always been an institution that is receptive to and supportive of our veteran students,” said Sean View, Westminster’s director of financial aid. “Since Westminster agreed to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program which began in 2009, we have seen a tremendous increase in students taking advantage of their GI Bill benefits. Approximately 60 of our more than 80 veteran students are participating in this program and we are pleased to be able to give back and thank them for their service.”

The 1,518 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list prioritize the recruitment of students with military experience. These schools are making the grade by offering scholarships, veterans’ clubs, military credit and other services to those who served.

“At Westminster College, we are grateful for the service our student veterans have given our country,” added Cory Shipp, a counselor at Westminster who assists veteran students. “We want to do everything we can to assist our veterans as they transition from their military service to their civilian life, and it’s my responsibility to help make that transition as smooth as possible as students pursue their educational goals.”

The 2012 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.
