Bike to Graduation, Saturday, June 1st at Noon.

We'll meet at noon on the west side of Meldrum. Guided groups will leave starting at 12:05 for those wanting to be early or riding a more causal pace with the last group leaving campus at 12:30.

This year we will be building on the successes of past years and will again be offering:

·         Valet bike parking so you don't have to worry about bringing locks or bike theft.

·         A marked route so you can't get lost on the way.

·         Guides who will ride with you so you really can't get lost

·         Cargo hauling service should you not have the ability/desire to carry robes, a change of clothes, or whatnot.

·         Riders equipped with repair kits who will be willing and able to help you should you get a flat tire or have other mechanical difficulty.

In addition, this year we have scouted a new and even friendlier route that avoids the busy 3100 South roadway, and instead adds more bike path and some very lightly used roads to approach the Maverick center. So, in the past, if you were intimidated by the thought of riding with traffic near the Maverick Center, don't let that be a concern any more. The new route completely avoids that hassle. You will now be riding in bike lanes, on signed bike roadways, or on isolated bike paths the whole way there and back.

Now is the time to start thinking about joining us. The ride is relatively short (~6 miles, ~30 minutes), mostly along the scenic Jordan River Parkway. It adds a pleasant, relaxing start and end to the otherwise hectic graduation event. You can avoid fighting for parking at the Maverick Center, being stuck in traffic trying to get in and out of the Maverick Center, and get a little exercise and fresh air. If your bike isn't in tip-top shape right now and that worries you, you have plenty of time to stop by the Westminster Bicycle Collective and the bike techs there will help you fix or tune up your bike – free of charge! May hours for the Collective are: Monday – Thursday from 12pm-6pm and Friday from 12pm-3pm.
