Swim Instruction

The purpose of the Swim Instruction Program is to promote simming for the benefits of fitness and exercise.  The FWRD Swim Instruction Team will work with new and experienced swimmers to help individuals reach their goals in this lifelong sport. 

Children's Summer Swim Lessons

Jump In Swim Instruction

Jump In swim instruction classes are all free and are drop in classes.  Come once or come everytime.  Instruction is specialized to help you meet your personal goals. 

  • Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 SCHEDULE 

    Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m. - Please show up within the first 15 minutes or the instructor will be leaving. 


Private and Semi Private Lessons

Schedule your own private swim instruction with an instructor or with a group of friends for a semi-private lesson.

  • Private Swim Lesson Rates:  $10.00 for 30 minutes
  • Semi-Private Swim Lesson Rates:  $7.50 per person for 30 minutes

Children's Swim Lessons

Children's Swim Lessons are for children of the Westminster Community (Alumni, Students, Faculty, and Staff). 

For more information or to register by phone please call Traci at 801.832.2862. Maximum of 5 students per class except for the Parent Tot class. Register early as spots will fill up!

DESCRIPTION OF LEVELS

Parent Tot:  Helps young children become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim at the next level.

  • Parent or caregiver accompanies child 
  • Typically 6 months to 2 years of age 

    *Children who are not toilet trained will be required to wear special swim diaper*

Tadpoles (Level 1):  Introduction to Water Skills

  • Helps students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy water safety
  • Typically 3 to 5 years old

Minnows (Level 2):  Fundamental Aquatic Skills

  • Gives studens success with fundamental skills
  • Typically 4 - 6 years old

Stingrays (Level 3):  Stroke Development

  • Builds on skills of Level 2 by providing additinoal guided practice.
  • Typically 4 to 6 years old

Dolphins (Level 4):  Stroke Improvement

  • Develops confidence in the strokes previously learned and to improve other aquatic skills.
  • Typically 5 to 10 years old

Sharks (Level 5):  Stroke Refinement

  • Provides futher coordination and refinement of strokes.
  • Typically 6 - 10 years old
