Instrumental Study Programs

Bachelor of arts in music | performance Emphasis

Students are accepted into the instrumental performance program by audition. Successful candidates will complete eight credits in a single foreign language. They will complete one semester of keyboard skills (for non-pianists), the full sequence of music theory, aural skills, and western music history, conducting, eight semesters of performance ensemble credit and sixteen credits of private instruction on their primary instrument as well as performing a senior recital. Instrumentalists can participate in the following ensembles: Westminster Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Music, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Flute Choir.



 

bachelor of arts in music | academic emphasis

Students are accepted into the academic music program by audition. Successful candidates will complete eight credits in a single foreign language, one semester of keyboard skills (for non-pianists), the full sequence of music theory, aural skills, and western music history, conducting, six semesters of performance ensemble credit, and four consecutive semesters private instruction. Instrumentalists in the program are also encouraged to take elective courses in music history and theory. This program is designed for students pursuing a music major in preparation for graduate school in music history, music theory, or composition and for musical pre-law or pre-med students.

music minor

Students are accepted into the music minor program by audition. Successful candidates will complete one semester of keyboard skills (for non-pianists), music theory I & II, aural skills I & II, Western music history, six semesters of performance ensemble credit, and six consecutive semesters private instruction. Instrumentalists in the music minor program are also encouraged to take music electives.
