Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program at Westminster College is committed to improving teacher education through meaningful inquiry. We balance field work with mentor teachers in the schools with that of college faculty as a means to transform teacher candidates into beginning teacher professionals.

Program Description

The goals of the program are accomplished through courses, seminars and research opportunities. Within our program students learn in an environment where they gain an understanding of the foundations of education, cognitive development, issues of racial, ethnic and economic diversity, and research on how to better their own professional skills.

The MAT is a cohort program where students share their experiences with their peers through a concentrated program designed to challenge their skills and enhance their critical thinking.

We offer three distinct graduate level programs leading to a master's degree and licensure; any of these may also be combined with a Special Education (K-12) license.

Early Childhood (K-3) - 45 credit hours
Elementary (1-8) - 45 credit hours
Secondary (8-12) - 39 credit hours
