Competitive Character Displacement
in Two Species of Recent Snails
There are only so many resources in nature to go around. If two species try to compete for the same resources in the same place, one of two things can happen. Either one of the species will be out-competed and go extinct, or the species will change in order to minimize competition. This study documented the changes that occurred in two similar species of post-Bonneville Utah pond snail when they lived in the same ponds as opposed to when they lived separately.
