Sociology/Anthropology : Westminster College

Westminster's Sociology and Anthropology Program

Why Study Sociology?

Sociology focuses on the relationship between society and individuals. In studying sociology, students will learn about how the social world influences how people think and act, and how people, in turn, can change that world. As such, sociology is a rich source of personal empowerment that allows people to better understand themselves and others. Career tracks associated with sociology include law, education, social services, social work, business, government, journalism, communications, and graduate studies in the social sciences.

Why Choose Westminster's Program?

Westminster Sociology and Anthropology

"Sociology is the scientific study of social life," says Mark Rubinfeld, Chair of the Sociology and Anthropology program. "And since social life is fluid, sociology is a dynamic discipline that is always evolving, always changing. Our sociology faculty view sociology as more than just an academic endeavor. It's also a practical tool for examining the social constraints that limit our possibilities and the social actions that can liberate us from those constraints. At Westminster, sociology students will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with friendly professors who are passionate about their work, and just as passionate about their teaching."

What Else?

We offer an academic major or minor in sociology, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Seminars and directed studies let our students explore a variety of relevant topics. Students studying sociology at Westminster are encouraged to enhance their studies with practical experience and internships, while also benefiting from small classes that emphasize discussion, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.
